DC has changed so much since I first moved back 13 years ago. If you told me then we’d have such a plethora of child-friendly places to eat and shop, I doubt I would have believed you. A couple weekends ago, we took full advantage of our (relatively new) selection when planned a trip to the newly-opened Wharf, but found it was too packed to park (again, I never thought I’d see the day!). No matter; off to the Yards we go! The Yards is such a great area for kids – my son had a wonderful time running along the boardwalk by the water, climbing on benches, and looking at boats. It’s surprisingly quiet area when there’s not a game going on. There’s also a great selection of dining options. We started out with some snacks at the Salt Line – a buttery lobster roll, some of the best clam chowder we’ve ever had, and a side of coddies (divine little cod and potato fritters). Then a little bit later, after strolling along the water, we met up with friends at Osteria Morini for a delicious charcuterie platter and few glasses of lambrusco. When we left there were lots of kids playing in the courtyard area while their parents dined in the outdoor spaces nearby – an idyllic scene my husband and I made note to take advantage of at a later date!
