Well three days without power will certainly make you appreciate the little things. Probably top of the list would be good friends. I’m not sure how B and I (and the dog we were dog-sitting) would have survived this debacle without those who took us in, fed us, and allowed us to bask in their glorious air conditioning. In case you were listening to my bellyaching on Twitter throughout this whole ordeal, these are the key survival tools that helped get me me through:
Oscar Blondi Pronto Dry Shampoo, Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer, Mario Badescu Drying Lotion, Jack Black Lip Balm in Black Tea, Sephora Snag-Free Hair Elastics, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer, all-important smartphone (Droid Razr Maxx), in-depth reading material
I hope all of you in the DMV are staying cool and comfortable!

So if you were going to be stranded on a desert island, are these the supplies you would wish to have with you? 🙂

Three days! I'm glad you survived. That sounds a bit awful. I don't know what I would be able to do with myself… re-read every good housekeeping magazine in our house, perhaps?

no power is NO GOOD!!!! ACK!!!! you are so lucky that you have friends that helped you out!
last year i lost power for about three days. maybe four? it was insane. i had to throw out almost all of the food from the fridge, and replenish. wah!!!!! the whole area had no power, so you really couldn't even go out to eat or go hang out somewhere and be entertained for a few hours at night. it was just sit-at-home-in-the-dark time. it was horrible, but such a relief when the power came back on.
oh, and last year my place had plumbing issues for ONE WEEK. my landlord told me to "go easy" on the toilet. WTF?!?!?!?!??!?!? that was THE WORST.

I hate when the power goes out. I hope you find ways to entertain yourself. Try doing a few DIY activities.
