Well, as B. and I spending the holidays in New Mexico, I find that looking at pictures of Luis Jimenez’s work always gets me stoked to head southwest. B, and I saw some of his works last time we were in New Mexico and they are so incredibly animated and colorful. He’s mostly known for his polychromed fiberglass sculputres, like the one above (which you may recognize from the National Portrait Gallery), but I really enjoy his paintings and prints, as well. Tragically, one of his sculptures, meant for the Denver International Airport, ended up killing him when it fell on him and severed an artery in his leg. Another interesting fact: his daughter Elisa was on season 4 of Project Runway. Definitely check out more of his work here of at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, if you’re in DC.
