a visit to the Biltmore

Catching up on my photos from our family trip to Asheville over a month ago. These shots are from the Biltmore, a place I’ve wanted to visit ever since seeing the movie Being There. What a spectacular place! It’s hard to believe a place this palatial exists in the United States. Unfortunately photos weren’t allowed inside, but as you can imagine, the interiors were quite opulent and technologically advanced for the time period, including amenities like an elevator (which still uses its original motor) and an indoor pool! The gardens were just as impressive. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted (of Central Park fame), the lush, rolling gardens at the Biltmore make it as much a green space and park as it is a historical home.
