The weekend before last I was in Charlottesville with Southern Living for an exciting project I can’t wait to share in the not-so-distant future (more on that in, well, the future ;-)). But back to Charlottesville – I’m sorry to say I haven’t spent more time here before now! In the short 36 hours we were here, we managed to get a small taste of what this charming Virginia town has to offer. We started with a late lunch at Tastings of Charlottesville – an unassuming dining spot in a wine shop that’s recently gained somewhat of a cult following. The owner, Bill Curtis, created two equally interesting wine flights for us – I had a delicious selection of unusual German Rieslings, while B had a “mystery flight,” which turned out to be quirky Italian reds that we never would have thought to try otherwise. The food was delicious, too. I loved my crabmeat casserole and Ben enjoyed his seared scallops with mushroom risotto.

Afterward, we strolled around the downtown mall and peeked into a few shops (unfortunately I didn’t have time to do any “real” shopping, but my goal is to check that out on our next trip). To top off our lovely afternoon, we stopped in the Pie Chest for a cup of coffee and their rich bourbon pecan pie!
