This blouse was originally part of my mom’s “going away suit” for my parents’ wedding. I had no idea what a “going away suit” was until I was planning my own wedding and my mother inquired if I had one.
“Going away suit?”
“For when you leave the reception to go on your honeymoon. And wave goodbye to everyone. You need a traveling suit.”
“What is this, the 1920’s? Do I need a steamer trunk, too? I planned this party for months. You better believe I’m not leaving early.”
Mother, clearly appalled, takes a deep breath. “Well if that’s what you want…”
This would be a point of heated debate well up until the wedding. Anyway, not too long ago, when rooting through my mom’s closet, I found said suit (a beautiful light beige blazer and wide-pleated skirt go with this blouse). Of course I had to have it. Oh the irony.

Haha, that story is great. I never understood why people left weddings early. I'd plan for my honeymoon to start like the next day or a couple days after so I could fully enjoy my wedding party.
I love your outfit. That blouse is so pretty.
Lol funny story.. I've been lusting after your JC clogs! You always pair them up so nicely

He he love the story. But do you really want to leave early? not for me I would stay just until the party is over and leave the next day. But leaving for honeymoon at the actual day of the wedding isn't our tradition anyway. 😀
Love the blouse, your mother had great taste! 😀

loving this look! you look fabulous!
So cute! Really like that top.
that is too funny about the post-wedding suit. i'm going to start harassing my engaged friends about getting their own. but your mom should be happy that at least you've worn part of it, nevermind if it wasn't on your wedding day. the beige color is so pretty on you! ~joelle
I've never heard of a going away suit either. So you're not alone! Lol.

HAHAH I just had this EXACT conversation with my grandmother this week. She was horrified that I haven't planned a going away outfit, but trying to hold the horror in and be "cool". love it.
and you do totally look like an awesome spy.

Absolutely love that story, and the blouse
love it…. the outfit is gorgeous, the clogs and sunnies are perfect!
Clogs still scare me haha but I absolutely love your Mum's 'going away' blouse; such a lovely colour and the pleats are pretty. Like how you juxtaposed it was the leather mini. Hot 🙂
Haha, such a great story. That shirt is lovely!
Lucy, Dear Fish
My mother had a going away suit for her wedding too! I kind of wish that was still the fashion…not only would you get to pick out a wedding dress but a cute outfit for after too!
LOVE the clogs!!!!:)
No worries, I had no idea what's a 'going away suit' either, until I came across your blog 🙂
Lovely impeccable style, love the demure vintage blouse you had on, great choice!
Learn something every day! I wasn't ware of and didn't have a 'going away suit'. I love your outfit btw, everything comes together perfectly and it gives me ideas for styling a blouse I have like yours.
Oh, how I love clogs.
I love the leather skit! The zipper is such a fun quirk!
Aaaannnd, those clogs – 🙂 I'm loving them.
LOL 1920s… thats a great idea ive always thought..to have an occasion for every item of clothing
The leather skirt is wonderful! And I adore your sunnies!!
Thanks so much for your comments. I love them!
Haha! I had no idea! But if I do decide on a "going away suit" for my wedding (in the far, far future) I'd definitely pick something equally pretty and chic. (;
You look fab!
Love the blouse and the clogs!
I always see you on chictopia, so I thought I would head over and check out your blog! 🙂 I love your style!
XX Aleisha –No Rock Without Plastic
loving the shirt; it's very polish looking hahaha
love this look. and love your description of that convo! lol
I feel as if my mother knows what my wedding will be like more than me. I love your anecdote about the top.
You are rocking those clogs! They look amazing with that leather skirt.
totally awesome girl! lovee the shirt..the color is perfct.

pshhh I'd leave my wedding party with my heels in my hands and my dress trailing all over the ground. no doubt it's a sweet blouse though!
ps. killer glasses….
My lil' sis and I were just talking about that the other day. I think it's rather charming…but I wouldn't want to put it on until the wee hours. Gotta party at the reception!

This is such a beautiful blouse and I love how you balance it with a leather mini skirt and clogs.
I've heard of a going-away suit but I didn't know it was something that people still do. It is a lovely blouse tho!
Really loving that skirt on you. And of course the Km Rii bag!!
The blouse is gorgeous on you~ what a sweet story, I always loved the idea of a going away suit. I just wanted to shop for one I think…

Love the outfit! Your style is so amazing.
When you get a chance,
I sent you an email for suggestions of shops in D.C.
Please get back to me soon!
this looks lovely on you…the proportions and cuts are so flattering!!!
LOL, that's too funny b/c I thought the same thing. You pay so much for the party and so much for a dress you will only wear once, who would want to leave early, right?
Bahahahahahaha! I love your mom's insistence that you NEEDED a going-away suit. I'd be closing the banquet hall! That, or pass out…I can't possibly fathom why you'd want to deal with all the excitement of getting married and then board a train or a flight the same day.
But I suppose it's all just as well, as then your future daughter can end up with a fabulous blouse. I love this combo — it's prim and proper yet super-tough! 😀

HILARIOUS!!! I had the exact same discussion with my mother!! I think it was just an excuse to buy an extra outfit personally! (and I actually wear the jacket from my grandmother's going away suit quite often!!)
oh, and you look perfect, as always!
RAD!!! Your glasses = OBSESSED!!! Love your style girl!! Keep rockin it!!! xoxoxo
