Did you guys have a fun Halloween?  It always makes me a little sad when it’s over and people start taking their decorations down.  As for the outfit, I was recently drawn to this quilted jacket at H&M because the the leather is one of those magical faux leather compositions that’s so soft it feels like lambskin.  And the skirt was a piece that had collected the appropriate amount of dust to justify my stealing it from my mother’s closet.  I’m pretty sure it’s from the 80s, solidifying my love for things made in past generations, by the way that the fabric holds it’s pleats so nicely, yet allows for absolute unrestricted movement.  This confirms my long-standing belief that great design never goes out of style, though I lament the fact that, while mainstream fashion continues to break boundaries, quality construction is not as prevalent as once was.

Maybe everyday is Saturday morning, two daughters and a wife.

One of the many trees B and I have seen in Rock Creek Park with homages to past love affairs carved in it.  RW + PH from 1968 was super-high up on the tree, which kind of puts in perspective the passing of time.  If I was a jerk who carved stuff into trees, then maybe B and I could see where our mark would be in 40 years.

I am wearing a really similar skirt from the 80s that was my mom's in today's post too! I especially love the length of the skirts – and you are SO right about the quality.

You look fabulous, as always!

Great Jacket, it really looks like real leather.

like how you justified stealing a skirt from your mother's closet as "it's gathered enough dust" haha! love how structured that skirt is…

Your skirt is beautiful and I love how your styled it! The jacket and boots give it an updated look which I think makes the skirt stand out so great.

I love seeing the old graffiti carvings on trees- I feel like it tells an unknown story, but I agree I don't think I could do it myself.

The tree carvings are beautiful in an adolescent way, I love it.

The skirt is quite amazing; can't believe its been in such prestine condition over the decades. I love how you have it paired with more hardcore pieces like the faux leather jacket and the belt. Love.

Those shoes are just amazing. Beautiful skirt too. Those trees make me think of going out at Scotts Bluff and seeing all writing people left on the Oragan trail.

Thanks so much for the note. I try to make it real. I suppose we all have those almost surreal moments in life wondering what in the world have we got ourselves into.

Yet again I wish there was an H&M near me. That jacket is gorgeous!

Can't believe that jacket isn't real leather, but H&M is pretty good at doing faux leather stuff. Gorgeous skirt… and the colors are so perfect for Fall. I do believe that items back then were better made and used superior fabric than what you find these days. I went shopping last week looking for some knits and about 90% of what I saw was made of acrylic or some other man-made fabric.

This look is fabulous! That quilted leather jacket paired with the floaty, feminine skirt is such a divine coupling.

J'adore the carvings in the trees. I have always found something so whimsical and romantic about reading the names cut into the bark. It makes you wonder if any of them are still together, or not. 🙂
