Melk Abbey

On a pointlessly cold day like today, it’s nice to remember a more charming winter day spent at Melk Abbey almost a month ago. As you can see, the baroque exterior and interior are pretty remarkable, but in my opinion, one of the most noteworthy rooms was the library (unfortunately unphotographable for obvious reasons, but thank god for Wikipedia). The best comparison I think of (and admittedly not a super intellectual one) is like something out of Harry Potter –  full of beautiful leather-bound manuscripts, ornately-carved bookshelves, and gorgeous frescoed ceilings. You kind of halfway expect Dumbledore to come bumbling around the corner.

That is a breath-taking sight – and I admire you ambition to travel in the winter, and have to deal with packing layers and coats and boots…
