a saucy line will not get you far with me

I know Black Swan is the big “fashion movie” everyone’s talking about right now, but I was actually more drawn to the costumes in True Grit. Perhaps I’m old-fashioned, but I loved the long skirts, fitted jackets, and lace-up boots.

How’s the weekend been treating you all? This might sound sad to any of you who are football fans, but I’m excited for the Superbowl tomorrow solely for the food and the commercials. So far, the Volkswagen one has me stoked šŸ™‚

So jealous you can pull off a hat! My head must be a funny size b/c I can never find one that fits right.

I loved the fashion in True Grit too!

You look beautiful! I am in love with that jacket. It looks perfect on you. I have seen that a lot of fashion bloggers have been inspired by "True Grit". I never saw it, but I heard it was good!

Love this…so chic and elegant and a little rough. That jacket is heavenly.

Oh, Superbowl. I'll be sitting at work, hoping it keeps everyone away, because I am a curmudgeon!

Have to agree with you there – I don't think I focussed on the costumes for more than three seconds in Black Swan to be honest. Faaaar too intense.

You look amazing! The jacket fits you like a dream!

The Black Swan didn't appeal to me, so I saw Tangled instead. I must say I much preferred laughing my ass off to being creeped out by the black swan herself.

I love the long skirt and fitted jacket, I wonder if I'm too short to suit this look…I do have fairly long legs though…hmm.

That blazer has such a wonderful cut

you have a good eye for a different kind of detail. check out the clip in this entry. i'd sooner check out true grit than black swan just based on that. did you like the costumes in the village and other similar ones?

fabulous coat. would be so adorable with full skirts with petticoats peeking and bouncing above booties.

Lovely outfit! The most recent film that's had me excited about the costumes was Tron: Legacy. Made me want to become a cosplayer.

So incredible adoreable!!! I like this outfit!!!

This outfit looks amazing! It made me thinking about wearing a long skirt too. I never quite got the 'feminine' side of these long skirts =) But now I do =) x

very..very..chic..love your neat and sophisticated look in today's grung-ey overcast…..and that surprise slit…just spells sexy!!!!

It's a gorgeous jacket. The ballerina look is great for photography and dancing about, but I'll take a fitted jacket over that any day.

Such a lovely look!

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that the commercials are the only good parts of the Superbowl.

And I love how you're channeling True Grit.

Thjat plastic surgeon nips and tucks like a plastic surgeon with a deft touch…. haha, I can't believe I just wrote that shit. What I mean to say is that the jackets fits you perfectly!!!

E that jacket is amazing!! I'm not really into black swan either… totally in your corner lady šŸ™‚

This jacket is fabulous! I love the whole outfit:)

Great jacket, really.

And I'm also a much bigger fan of Superbowl commercials than I am of the actual game. Football just doesn't do much for me. I'm always partial to the Budweiser commercials with the Clydesdale team.

This is my fave outfit, from you! The coat is just amazing! I love it! XOXO

I can't wait for the Superbowl (even the Chargers didn't make it…again). I heard about the Volkswagen commercial on NPR and watched it…so hilarious and cute!

You look so lovely and ladylike. That ruffled blazer is just simply pretty.

OMG. I was just leaving a comment at Comtesse that I just watch True Grit and loved it, on her Black Swan post.

Yep. I'm with you. Gem of a movie, and I LOOOOOVED the costumes!

PS: you look amazing. AS. ALWAYS.

Super cool. I hardly watched the game at all yesterday… though I've heard good things about the V-dub commercial, so I need to hit it up on YouTube or something.

I have to agree with you on the Black Swan/True Grit debacle. Definitely prefer the old fashioned outfits.

What a lovely blazer!!! And kudos for carrying off that hat with such elan! šŸ™‚

love the hat! just a perfect outfit!

i have not watched true grit yet – what "black swan" was such an intense movie that I could not pull myself from it for a long time – i can see why people would consider it as a 'fashion" movie per se, considering the costume by rodarte – but, personally, i feel it really is a movie about emotional struggles many of creative people face … so dark and torturing, yet all so romantically and hauntingly beautiful …

your interpretation of old-time-western is fantastic, xx

what a fabulous take on True Grit. Again, you somehow take an inspiration, make it relevant for today, and make it all your own in a gorgeous way.

I loved that movie, wasn't it amazing? i love the part where they are on the horse at night surrounded by stars…

What a lovely combo! The long lines and the jacket's cut and shape are a delight! šŸ™‚

I don't know if you saw this article http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2011/02/09/ST2011020904370.html?sid=ST2011020904370. I figured it might interest you since you said you were looking for places to visit in VA and you now have a VA home to furnish.

Enjoy!
