I’ve found myself attracted to sheer, mesh-like things layered over long pieces lately, but hadn’t found the best strategy for creating the combination within my own wardrobe until this weekend. This black and white empire waist maxi dress presented the perfect base for a tied mesh top that has been in my staple rotation forever. I love this dress, but I find it can be a little boring without some sort of statement jewelry. I rather like the idea of changing it up with a clean white top instead.

One of my favorite girls in the world, C, is back in town for the summer and I’m sooo excited! She just got back from traveling around the Middle East and brought me kohl. She said that the kohl really helped protect her eyes in the desert. I tried it on Saturday (wearing it in the pictures) and I have to admit, it coats exceptionally well (no scrawling back and forth to create a visible line) and it didn’t irritate my sensitive eyes, as many eye products usually do. Now the question is: how am I going to get my hands on more??

Awesome outfit! You look gorgeous.

Great idea to add some versatility to the maxi shape. I like it alot. Over as opposed to underneatht the straps feels more modern, I think.

You really elevate casual pieces here — this could be an evening look! The first photo is tres glamourous, and what's best is that it's YOU, your natural beauty, that is most noticeable. I adore this.

and i like your dress! so long and elegant!!!

I love love love what you've done with the maxi dress! I agree that maxi dresses can sometimes look a little blah but you made it so incredibly fierce and sassy with that mesh white top! I also happen to love mesh white tops, they're the best kind of sheer top.

My opinion on sheer clothing is totally changing now. I wish I could figure why maxi dresses don't look good on me. I see plenty of girls wear them but I can't. Oh well.
