spy vs. spy

spy vs. spy

spy vs. spy

This blouse was originally part of my mom’s “going away suit” for my parents’ wedding. I had no idea what a “going away suit” was until I was planning my own wedding and my mother inquired if I had one.

“Going away suit?”

“For when you leave the reception to go on your honeymoon. And wave goodbye to everyone. You need a traveling suit.”

“What is this, the 1920’s? Do I need a steamer trunk, too? I planned this party for months. You better believe I’m not leaving early.”

Mother, clearly appalled, takes a deep breath. “Well if that’s what you want…”

Scene.

This would be a point of heated debate well up until the wedding. Anyway, not too long ago, when rooting through my mom’s closet, I found said suit (a beautiful light beige blazer and wide-pleated skirt go with this blouse). Of course I had to have it. Oh the irony.

Haha, that story is great. I never understood why people left weddings early. I'd plan for my honeymoon to start like the next day or a couple days after so I could fully enjoy my wedding party.

I'm glad you like the vintage finds. 🙂

I really love this blouse, and the story that goes with it makes it even more special. I treasure any little piece I have that was my mothers, because when I wear it I somehow feel like she is there with me. 🙂

He he love the story. But do you really want to leave early? not for me I would stay just until the party is over and leave the next day. But leaving for honeymoon at the actual day of the wedding isn't our tradition anyway. 😀
Love the blouse, your mother had great taste! 😀

that is too funny about the post-wedding suit. i'm going to start harassing my engaged friends about getting their own. but your mom should be happy that at least you've worn part of it, nevermind if it wasn't on your wedding day. the beige color is so pretty on you! ~joelle

Clogs still scare me haha but I absolutely love your Mum's 'going away' blouse; such a lovely colour and the pleats are pretty. Like how you juxtaposed it was the leather mini. Hot 🙂

pshhh I'd leave my wedding party with my heels in my hands and my dress trailing all over the ground. no doubt it's a sweet blouse though!

ps. killer glasses….

Reply

My lil' sis and I were just talking about that the other day. I think it's rather charming…but I wouldn't want to put it on until the wee hours. Gotta party at the reception!

Reply

Which surely gives you the option of a second honeymoon!
This is such a beautiful blouse and I love how you balance it with a leather mini skirt and clogs.

Reply

I've heard of a going-away suit but I didn't know it was something that people still do. It is a lovely blouse tho!

this looks lovely on you…the proportions and cuts are so flattering!!!

Reply

LOL, that's too funny b/c I thought the same thing. You pay so much for the party and so much for a dress you will only wear once, who would want to leave early, right?

Reply

Bahahahahahaha! I love your mom's insistence that you NEEDED a going-away suit. I'd be closing the banquet hall! That, or pass out…I can't possibly fathom why you'd want to deal with all the excitement of getting married and then board a train or a flight the same day.

But I suppose it's all just as well, as then your future daughter can end up with a fabulous blouse. I love this combo — it's prim and proper yet super-tough! 😀
