simple winter pick-me-up smoothie

Since my mornings have become more chaotic with getting myself and my little one ready for the day, I’ve started to rely heavily on smoothies to have a quick and healthy breakfast to get me going. This simple green smoothie is packed with good stuff (iron, vitamin C, and omega-3s) to boost your immune system during cold season. I used to take flax seed oil during the wintertime (and I when I was, I swear I never got sick), but adding a spoonful of ground flax to my smoothies is an easy way to get the same benefits while adding some fiber to my diet.

2 small oranges, peeled (or one big one)
1 small green apple
a couple slices of mango*
a large handful of spinach*
1 heaping spoonful of ground flax seed
a large handful of ice
a splash of water

** I get these items fresh because Trader Joe’s makes it easy with pre-sliced mango, but you can also get these items frozen.

Blend in a high-powered blender (we got a Blendtec for Christmas and love it!) until smooth and enjoy!

If you want some more green smoothie ideas, check out this great round up. What are your favorite smoothie recipes? I’m hooked!

Mmm! This looks delicious and healthy and that bright green color would be sure to cheer me up on a gloomy winter day!
