I used to go skiing with my family every winter in Colorado, but I’d never visited in the summertime. I can see why it’s so appealing to active adventurers! There were hiking trails everywhere you looked (B and I picked one at random and ended up taking a beautiful walk without running into a soul) and a river running right behind our cabin that looked to be a popular spot for whitewater rafters and fly fishers alike. Here’s a little bit more about our stay…

Where we stayed:
Glen Eden Resort – Cozy little cabins about 20 minutes from Steamboat in Clark and situated right next to the river, we fell asleep listening to the sound of the water every night. We also loved having our own kitchen, sitting room, fireplace, and porch to lounge around on during our downtime. Very affordable and we’d certainly stay here again. The wedding we were attending was at the Home Ranch across the street, which is kind of a high-end dude ranch featuring gourmet cuisine, horseback riding, fly fishing, and more. B and I would love to bring our family here for a vacation one day.

What we ate:
Since we were there for a wedding, our dinners were taken care of, but we were able to try out two great breakfast spots: Creekside Cafe and Winona’s. Creekside Cafe was a little fancier (though still casual). I had what was easily the best corned beef hash I’ve ever had and a nice fluffy pancake on the side. B thought his bloody mary was excellent. Try to eat outside if you can, as their patio is situated right next to a scenic creek (hence the name). Winona’s was more laid-back, but the food was just as good. We thought their southwestern specialties were delicious, like the huevos rancheros and carnitas hash. We also spent quite a bit of time at the Clark Store. In addition to being a great little spot for picking up sundries and checking email on their free wifi, B and I enjoyed a yummy breakfast here on our first day in town and stopped by later in the afternoon for one of their delicious chocolate chip cookies.

What we did:
Although there are quite a few cute clothing stores, I’m not doing a ton of clothing shopping right now – my main goal was to do a little stocking up for our nursery. Overland has a great selection of beautiful cowhide rugs (which I’m still seriously considering) and sheepskins (I picked one of these up for the nursery and it’s sooo soft). We also found an adorable pair of vintage toddler cowboy boots at Artisans Market & Cabin Creek Antiques and B picked up a new Stetson at F.M. Light & Sons. For outdoor attractions, make sure and check out Fish Creek Falls – a short walk for an impressive view and additional hiking trails if you want something a little more challenging. And of course the aforementioned hiking was incredible. It’s very easy to pick up trails along Routt Country Road 129 and walk to your heart’s content (here’s a great guide to some of the other trails to check out). A few of our friends took a trail ride at the Home Ranch and said it was a lot of fun – something B and I hope to try on a future trip!
