My good friend is moving to Bolivia so as a last hurrah before she left town, we decided to take a trip to a few Virginia wineries, using a list of recommendations from Red Hen’s Sebastian Zutant. We started at Glen Manor, which sits in a valley bordered by Skyline Drive (yeah, it’s kind of picturesque). Since it’s a little further out and doesn’t allow buses, it’s quiet and uncrowded and we ended up making a picnic of our lunch on their Adirondack chairs looking out at the surrounding hills (ridiculously charming, right?). Oh I should mention the wine was great, too. I took a bottle of rosé home and still enjoyed it (I feel like the ultimate test is trying wine again at home).

Our other notable stop was Linden, which I had visited before, but didn’t realize that the owner, Jim Law, is considered the “godfather” of Virginia wine and that many other Virginia winemakers worked for him and learned from him. But most importantly, Linden wines are delicious every time we visit and the (other) bottle of rosé I took home was just as good, if not better than when I tasted it at the winery.

Looks looooovely! My mom grew up in the Shenandoah Valley and we still have family there. Can't beat that view on this side of the country! But I don't think I've been there since I turned 21 so I've never been to a VA winery! Maybe I should pay a visit to my grandparents…hmmm…. 😉
