I think (hope) we might be coming to the end of coat season, but I still have this last one to share! What attracted me to this coat in the first place was the wonderful arrow-shaped pocket detail. Reminds me of the Carven coats I so loved from this winter (kind of a hybrid of these two). Like most vintage coats (or at least those that have survived this long), it's very well-made and super warm. But here's hoping I won't need it until next year!

When I was in high school, I participated in an exchange program with an English school. One of my most vivid memories of the time was how much I envied the girls with their vintage shearling coats, flared jeans and high top Chuck Taylors. Anyway, many years later, I still thought of those stylish girls when I finally replaced my much-abused last pair of Chucks with these babies. When we went to Hot Springs last weekend, I foolishly left my shearling coat at home only to get hit with an overnight blizzard, so this was me making do with what I brought.

Taking a quick break from moaning and groaning and icing my chipmunk cheeks* to share this outfit from last weekend. My friends and I took a trip to Hot Springs, VA for a relaxing weekend of "taking the waters" and lots of yummy meals. One of my favorites was brunch at The Inn at Gristmill Square. Charming location and delicious trout. Given my current diet of applesauce and mashed potatoes, I have to admit I'm a bit nostalgic for this meal!

I've been in desperate need of some handbag variety in my life lately, so I have to say I'm pretty pleased with this little ladylike gem from Romwe. Clearly it seems to be getting along well with my winterwear, but I'm looking forward to introducing it to some spring ensembles!

There's nothing quite like a soft pair of pants that work equally well for lounging around the house all day as they do dressed up with a pair of heels. As you might have guessed, this is exactly what happened with these babies over the weekend. Also kind of nice knowing they're light and airy enough to transition well into summer (which can't come soon enough).

Ok, one slightly obnoxious Valentine's Day gift post before we resume our regularly schedule programming. Promise. Just wanted to share what my thoughtful husband gave me, because I've been pining after this fragrance for such a long time now. The fancy chocolates were a nice touch, too.

Utica Greens

Utica Greens

Utica Greens are pretty much my favorite Central New York food and after our recent trip, I realized it was kind of silly that I had never tried making them myself. The beauty of this recipe is that you can really apply it to just about any green. The original recipe calls for one large escarole, but I used kale since it's abundant at the farmer's market.

For this recipe, you will need:

1 large escarole (I used a large bunch of kale)
  4 slices prosciutto, chopped
  2 garlic cloves, chopped
  2 tablespoons olive oil
2 long italian hot peppers, seeded and julienned (I used several tablespoons of pickled ground cherry peppers I found at the grocery store, which worked well because vinegar tends to complement greens)
  ½ cup breadcrumbs
¼ cup pecorino romano cheese, grated
  1 cup chicken broth
  salt and pepper, to taste

Clean and rinse escarole twice, then chop in large pieces.  Boil down for 5 or 6 minutes so it’s tender and wilted.

Place olive oil in an oven-safe skillet and heat.  Add chopped garlic and prosciutto and render for 2 or 3 minutes.

Add seeded peppers and cook another minute or so. Add the escarole and all the other ingredients in the pan.

Gradually add the bread crumbs and grated cheese, tossing gently until blended. Taste for final salt and pepper seasoning.

Sprinkle a little of the bread crumbs and place under a broiler for 3-4 minutes. Serve hot.

Utica greens pair nicely with spaghetti bolognese - here's my recipe if you'd like to try it!

My Super Bowl-watching outfit. Sporty, right? I'm not exactly a football fan unless the Redskins or Saints are playing. I wasn't originally planning on wearing the fur vest, but weather dictated another layer and, well, it went with the shirt a little too perfectly. And since we're talking about the vest, let me say it is definitely as comfy and cozy as it looks.

I'm sure you know by now how much I love enamel bracelets. These babies came care of my lovely new sponsor Poshlocket. I've already found that this color assortment goes with just about everything.

I finally had to replace my much-loved tan loafers, but I have to say I'm very pleased with their Topshop successors. How cute are the pink soles?

Major weekend activities revolved primarily around good food - El Centro, Masa 14, freshly made cinnamon doughnuts from the Falls Church Farmers Market, burgers from Joe's Burgers, and a delicious feast at Delhi Club. I feel like DMV dining keeps getting better!

Ulyana stalking

Those of you who follow my tumblr might have noticed an abundance of Ulyana Sergeenko photos tagged with "inspiration" (oh, and I was pretty stoked about her debut collection, too). She can do no wrong in my eyes - the perfect balance of ladylike and sexy.
