Appalachia afternoon

life in the way

Gah! I have so many pictures to share and so little time! Once again, I quick post before I have to switch back to the real world, but I promise, after this weekend, my time will be solely devoted to you. Two action-packed days until Halloween in New Orleans!! Eeeeeeeeeeekkkk!!!

These were from the first leg of our weekend road trip. I really seem to be warming up to hats, huh?

blue-banded

Wanted to squeeze in a quick post before I leave for my Kentucky wedding road trip, so forgive me if this is a bit rushed. This outfit was from Sunday, when I felt like my boring neutral sportswear look could use a little brightening up. Enter this hat. I love the slightly unexpected blue band on this otherwise traditional fedora. B helped me a little with the brim. I seem to have terrible issues with adjusting hat brims properly...

I hope all of you have a lovely weekend! Hopefully I'll have some fun photos to share when I get back!

The belt strikes again! It wasn't so easy to see in the last outfit, so I hope this look shows it off a little better. The weather could not have been more perfect this weekend. I love crisp fall days likes these.

These photos were taken on Saturday, when we went to the most picturesque first birthday party ever by Fletcher's Boat House. B and I are currently analyzing our schedule for a free day to go back before it gets cold.

This sweater is a thrift store find. It's a size XL, which makes it a marvelous mix between a sweater and a coat. There's something awfully nautical about it, too. Up until now, it's been my version of a Snuggie for TV-watching and porch-sitting. Nice to finally have an excuse to share it with the real world.

Almost the weekend! What do you all have on tap? This is my last weekend in town before back to back out-of-town weekends in Lexington, KY and NOLA. SO excited! Any suggestions on things to see/do in Lexington, besides the all-important races? I'm stoked to finally visit the "Horse Capital of the World."

I found this belt on a work clothes shopping binge at H&M and I'm so pleased with it. I feel like I've only begun to test the myriad of possibilities with this one. Also, the skirt is back. I've been literally been watching the temperature gauge and counting the minutes until it would be cool enough to bust this out again.

Studded-ness. I feel like this jacket looks different depending on what you wear with it. Definitely a piece with its own personality. Oh and these pants? Probably the best investment I ever made. They just turned two years old, more than outweighing their cost/use ratio. All of my Mango pants have served me well, actually...

The Waterford Fair

The Waterford Fair

The Waterford Fair

Last weekend, B and I went to the Waterford Fair, which is pretty much the ultimate fall activity, right up there with apple picking and hay rides. Not only is the setting completely and totally picturesque, but the fair features a mind-boggling assortment of treasures from incredibly talented craftspeople. We were only there for a few hours, but one could easily fill an entire day checking out all the galleries, performances, and historic home tours.

One of my favorite things about this fair is seeing all of the craft demonstrations. Metalworking, basket making, wood carving - absolutely mesmerizing. I wish I had allowed more time to see more of these.

The flower barn was totally wild. Martha Stewart hocked up on amphetamines would be overwhelmed by the possibilities. It was hard to walk away with just a lavender wreath and small bouquet of dried wild flowers, and that was really only because B put his foot down.

The antique tractors were also pretty gnarly. My favorite was this one, because the wheels are badass.

These jeans are one of those ambiguous dark shades that you rack your brain trying to decide if they're black or blue. I'm pretty sure they're a very dark blue, but it's anyone's guess.

Aren't these shoes comical? I'm definitely a Docs child so it thrilled me to find a new style that I liked.
