Pretty idyllic weekend thus far - lots of wholesome outdoor activities and even a little bit of sensible shopping. Long and short: went to the Georgetown flea market, met friends at the Georgetown waterfront (tolerable once a year, maximum), checked out Ripple, and generally soaked in some sun.

PS Very pleasantly surprised by Ripple - reasonably-priced wine by the glass, generous pours, and great snacks :-)

tropicana

tropicana

It's the weekend! I'm not brave enough to take on the Memorial Day traffic, so we're staying in town, but I am going to do a little pre-birthday celebrating :-)  What do you all have tap this weekend?

tropicana

My mom got this dress for me when we took a sailing trip around the Windward Islands. I get excited about wearing this dress when the weather gets warmer, because the tropical print just screams "summer activities."

Another summer staple - I got this necklace in a boutique on Nantucket a few years ago. I like that it's kind of a statement necklace, but not too big and little bit rustic.

My friends and I had our last non-long-distance wine club for a while since one of the founding members is selling his soul to Wall Street. I don't support the decision, but at least it will give me a good excuse to go shopping in NYC. The theme was Amarone in honor of our fallen Italian soldier. I'm usually more of a French wine kind of girl, but I can't say I disliked the ones we tried. Oh and we were treated to an equally exotic and delicious meal of grilled squid, parsnip and fennel puree, prosciutto-wrapped scallops with pesto, and blueberry sorbet! Lovely evening, if not a little bittersweet.

I found out this gem of a blouse whilst perusing Market Publique the other day. I don't usually do a lot of vintage shopping on the internet because I like to be able to closely inspect the items and vintage sizing can be so tricky, but this was such a pleasant surprise, I might have to do it more often.

We went to Tonic for a friend's birthday party. I generally enjoy this place, and perhaps it was because we arrived earlier than usual (9ish), but I was taken aback by the rather rigid table service only policy. I don't generally appreciate a bar that deters standing and, therefore, mingling. Minor annoyances aside, I had a wonderful time catching up with friends I hadn't seen in a while, discovering unexpected connections, and creating fantasy hybrid names. "Strauzioli" was the obvious winner. Doesn't that sound like some delicious pastry just waiting to be invented? If you create it, I demand royalties.

Lately, I've been obsessed with the idea of a libertine-style blouse and obtaining one of my own. This blouse had the most incredible embroidery on the tie, I just couldn't resist!  This outfit was from one of those crappy, cold, rainy (in May??!!) days, when I found myself scratching my head and wondering what the Hell I was going to wear. This is probably more of a Fall/Winter outfit, but whatever, if Mother Nature doesn't have to adhere to seasonal characteristics, than neither do I.

Of course you remember these bad boys that I've grown so fond of. DizzyMarie said they reminded her "deflated balloons" and I have to say she hit the nail on the head.

Moxsie rewards

Moxsie rewards

I was finally quick enough to redeem a Chictopia reward and it was so exciting! I won a pair of 80%20 shoes from Moxsie, which had unfortunately just sold out, so they were kind enough to let me pick another pair of 80%20 shoes. I chose these wonderfully chunky wedges, which I know I will be tromping around in quite a bit this summer. They served their purpose when B and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather on Saturday. Sure wish that nice weather would have lasted...

Moxsie rewards

I got this top a few years ago from a cute boutique in San Francisco. I was there on a business trip and only got a couple hours to shop, but I made out like a bandit, so it was probably good my time was limited or I could have done some serious damage. Anyway, I love the evil eye-like design of this top and I need to wear it more.

Summer days are almost here! This is one of my favorite summer dresses - perfect for layering over a swimwear, bumming around town, or slapping on a pair of platforms and going out for a drink. My friends and I did some grilling on Saturday, drank some wine, listened to hippie records, and watched the Goonies. Hope to do more of the same in coming weekends.

Sunday was such an amazing mix of laziness and business. Brunch was an all-day affair, broken up by a trip to the Georgetown Flea Market and visits from friends. It's been unseasonably cold, but at least it was sunny. These mesh leggings are perfect for warm weather layering, because they're sheer enough that I can pretend I'm not really layering... or something...

I tried to shoot a thought, but the thought sunk.

I don't think I've ever shared a good detail shot of this necklace that I wear all the time. It has this pretty landscape painted on it.

How do you like the super blown-out hair?  I kind of liked how it turned out. It reminds me of that strangely sterile, yet chic 60's housewife style. My stylist decided to go more blonde this time and, though I generally try to keep within the realm of "brunette," I rather like it.

This look came together organically, but I love the way it channels the lingerie trend that's so popular right now. This top is simple, but it hardly required other statement pieces to make an interesting outfit. Time for it to go to a new home now. Off to the next lucky blogger on the clothes swap, jesse.anne.o! Thanks again Love Charles and Both Yellow Animals for inviting me to participate!

My mom bought these shoes forever ago. I'll venture to say they might even be the first, truly interesting pair of shoes I ever owned, at least that I can remember. Glad they've lasted this long :-)

Good lord, I am tired! B and I have been going non-stop all weekend and I'm looking forward to getting some sleep.  Isn't this the most amazing top? I'm not normally a much of a mod girl, but this is so terribly elegant that I can't help but love it. Again, I can't keep it. Clothes swap. Damnit.

the "all 'round" dress

the "all 'round" dress

I was lucky enough to attend the Marriage of Figaro at the Kennedy Center last week. I have to say I'm always partial to the comedies and you really can't go wrong with Mozart. I was quite impressed by the cast, too.

This dress has been one of my weekday cocktail hour/wedding/cultural event staple dresses for a long time and I realized I've never shared it on the blog! Even though wrap dresses might not be so "in" right now, I find that this dress can be such an easy dress up/dress down option when I don't want to think about creating an ensemble.
