a whole lot of don't to do

a whole lot of don't to do

As of this moment, all things outdoors frighten me.  Currently trapped in my apartment, possibly forever.  Solution: wine, fur, lace and ridiculous shoes.

a whole lot of don't to do

a whole lot of don't to do

Now I must tell you the main reason I bought this was because of the label (though I did get a good deal and I had been looking for a good stole in this color, etc.).  A DC history lesson: Woodie’s was the place to shop back in the day and the building still remains down on 10th and F St.  I remember my mom and grandmothers taking shopping trips into the city, because Woodies was the only place where things like baby/wedding gifts and good winter coats could be found.  Oh how things have changed with the advent of Tysons Corner, Mazza Gallerie, and, well, the Internet.  Anyway,  I don’t think I could ever bear to part with this piece, because every time I pass it on the hanger in my room, it gives me a little twinge of nostalgia.  RIP Woodies.

a whole lot of don't to do

This look is for Paulette’s birthday, because I feel that fur and a glass of red wine are things that she would enjoy.

a whole lot of don't to do

Another thought: the cut of this stole is on the larger, broader shoulder side and it kind of makes me feel like Henry VIII.  Obv. he was kind of prick, but powerful, too, so I’m going to run with the powerful side in this look.

H&M jeans

Finsk shoes

PS Tasha gave me the nicest award commemorating the 1st anniversary of her blog and of our “virtual friendship” as well.  Is it strange that I feel a cetain rapport with you, my fellow bloggers and readers, though I’ve never met most of you?  We share a common interest that we bounce ideas around about fashion – isn’t that the concept behind a salon or a club or something?  I really foresee fashion blogging (and blogging in general) being a milestone in cultural history.  Won’t it be cool to say we were a part of that?  I think about this often.  I totally drink the blog Kool-Aid.

I agree with you E, though we haven't met in person, I can feel the connection.

I love the mink coat and because of you, I'm buying that F21 lace top.

I am watching CNN right now and I know that it is just too impossible to go out in your place. Have fun indoors then. xoxo

You look very sophisticated with your wine and fur and lace! I love it! I wore my fur yesterday too (it's the only thing keeping me warm!) But today, I'm not leaving the dorms. God, the weather is insane this year!

Hello hun, I agree with u completely! Luv ur coat!! Hope u are well, chat soon xx

How neat.. i love when items become part of something like a memory… it makes it even more fun to wear.. well at least for me. When you can tie them to a certain event or a person. That's actually why I prefer vintage that has been family owned. Because I can look at pictures and see my great aunt wearing something that maybe now I have.
By the way, this looks soooo classy and comfortable

Amazing!!! I just shed a tear because I am from Maryland – PG County, and when you just named all of the stores my friends and I used to shop at, it bought a nostalgic feeling of being 17 again. Thanks!!! Loving the blog, nice to see where the fashionistas are in DC. I can't wait to come back.

That a garment can (and should) be so much more than just what we put on our bodies is such an important notion to impart! I love that this stole reminds you of your mom and grandmothers and it's super-chic!

I'm finally back at work today. Obviously doing a lot of work.

You look very blizzard-glam in this. And your legs look a mile long (er than usual) with the all dark colors.

Love the stole – you're right, the color is divine. And no lie, I actually pulled out my rabbit stole the other night and enjoyed a really good bottle of wine with the boy the other night. What is it about snow that makes a girl want fur and wine? Hope you are able to get outside even if it is a mess tomorrow!

Reply

one of your best looks EVAH! and a little reminiscent of what i wore to the anvil concert last weekend, so you are cool like me. ahahhahaha!

🙂

Reply

I can totally commiserate with you being holed up in the apartment for the moment ~ though I know DC has 10x more snow than Chi-town right now. You look gorgeous and fab as usual, and I do hope that wine helps keep you warm 😉

Reply

I love the fur!! I found a beautiful vintage fur jacket at a thrift store & it had originally come from a popular dept store near my home. It makes it just that much more special! Anyways, your outfit is gorgeous & I always enjoy reading your posts!

Reply

Haha I love that you mentioned Henry VIII because and English king is totally the first thought that popped into my mind when I saw that first photo! You are so glamorous! 🙂

Reply

I am terrified of the cold and snow right now too! I love your solution! Those shoes are amazing.

Did you know H8 was trained as a theologian?

Reply

What a fantastic look!

PS Has anyone ever told you that you look like the actress on the new hospital show "Mercy"?

Reply

Oh that looks like fun!! I can't wait for winter so I can enjoy my fur and red wine too.

Reply

Can I just say that I am SO jealous of your snow day.

Lovely coat. I really want a HBC coat, since it is such a symbol of Canada (and I saw a girl on chictopia with one and was super jealous).

Reply

Haha, I just read your comment on my last post! I didn't know you were an equestrian either! That is super cool! One of these days I'll have to post up a picture of me and my Scarface. And my baby Lily.

Wine, fur and lace…I like your way of saying 'screw you' to nature. Such a classy lady…
The Holsteins in my picture were in a field beside the garden location where my brother's wedding was. I thought 'dammit, I'm in Holland, I am taking a picture with the cows'. They were super skttish, so I had to move sooo slow to pose in front of them.

You look absolutely fantastic! I'm loving the mink stole on you! So fab!

Great find on the stole! I have a vintage mink bolero that is from the "it" store in Denver, and it was my great grandmother (her initials are sewn on the inside!)!! I will have to photograph it!!

that stole is so gorgeous- you have the best taste in fashion!
also, i totally agree about the blogging thing. it's become kind of a social network aswell as a place to share your ideas.
in a way it's better than things like facebook, as it's easy to see who is interested in the same things as you, as you can read their posts to know what they're into:)

This is the funniest post. When trapped inside forever due to snow, wine, fur, lace and ridiculous shoes are perfect solution! I will remember that tonight because we just got more snow.

I've also purchased a vintage fur coat for the label. On eBay. A Hudson's label handsewn in a custom coat. Because I'm from Detroit and Hudson's doesn't exist as it once did. Seeing that label was huge nostalgia wave. I cut the coat up to make something new and unfortunately botched the job. But the label is actually framed!
