Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed...

So I'll get to the point: the boots and leggings are old, the boot bling is from a neato western store B and I stopped at last weekend, and the top is from the Weardrobe Closet - a fabulous idea that allows members to borrow items for a week. It's a great opportunity to "try it before you buy it" and I think I might be needing one of these tops in gray...

One more of the shoes before they go back in the closet so another pair gets a turn. They just seem to spruce up the most simple outfits so nicely! A few of you asked where I got them - Urban Outfitters, my friends. Best place to find interesting, but cheap sandals. Here they are online.

I'm not sure what summer days were like before I had a long, comfy skirt like this one, but I'm pretty sure they were missing something. I think I might be living in this skirt this summer, for serious.

Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show

I'm back from a relatively adventurous weekend in western Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina (we were busy). I have tons of photos sort go through, but here's a start...







I'm kind of loving my sad little faux Givenchys. I've been wanting a new pair of flat-ish sandals and haven't been too enthused about many, until now. I don't even mind the bizarre half heel as much as I would have thought.

Turandot

Sorry for the lapse in blogging. B and I are going out of town for the long weekend and things have been a little hectic. Last night we saw Turandot at the Kennedy Center, which was quite the spectacle. It's kind of a bizarre, sinister love story and the set design was wonderfully disconcerting. My favorite part was these giant masks of Turandot's beheaded suitors that streamed with red yarn to symbolize blood - deliciously morbid. I was disappointed I couldn't find more pics online to share with you.

As for my opera-going outfit, I was feeling a bit opulent, I suppose. I've had this blouse in my closet for a while and lord knows why I haven't worn it sooner. Better late than never, right?

Cruel Summer

I appreciate cool weather, but this is starting to get ridiculous. I should not be wearing pants and a jacket in May and still feeling chilly. The only upside is it provided a nice excuse to bust out this ridiculously preppy old school Ralph Lauren jacket I've been storing for a while. It feels so wrong, but sooo right.

Another twisted love affair I'm having is with these shoes. If I add one more impractical pair of shoes to my closet, I will be teetering on Imelda Marcos levels. (but it doesn't make me love them any less)

B and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Komi, which was a truly divine experience. I was pleasantly surprised how much the atmosphere lent itself towards conversation. I feel like that's an exception, not the norm for "fancy" restaurants. Kind of refreshing to have good food in a low key environment. Even so, that didn't mean I passed up an opportunity to dress up! I'm not gonna lie, I'm stoked skirt suits are back. I feel all 90s-SJP-ish :-)

A Year Ago...

...I got married!

Since I have yet to find another use for my wedding dress (except for wearing it around the house, which I plan to do one day), I thought I'd put it to work on z blog. As I sit here eating my unfrozen wedding cake topper with my lovely husband, I can think of a lot of things I loved about my wedding, because it was pretty damn perfect, but top of the list would definitely be all the people that were there. If there was one thing I learned from the whole experience, it's that weddings are the best excuse to have everyone you love all in one place!


I love this dress so damn much. It is Carolina Herrera-designed and the overlay is Spanish mesh, which I love because it is very soft and gives a vintage feel.


I love Dusty Miller.


Note to future brides: long veils are great UNLESS faced with gale-force winds on wedding day.
