DIY Closure

Cloudy

Cloudy

I promised you I'd spend an absurd amount of time on my DIY "Balmain" jeans, didn't I? Well I did not lie to you. I'm pretty pleased with the results, I have to admit. They're damn comfy and I think my completely unnecessary anal-retentiveness gave me the cloudy effect I was hoping to achieve. *golf claps*

Keep Your Hands to Yourself

Keep Your Hands to Yourself

Fun night on Saturday. Definitely danced like a goof to a crapload of songs I haven't heard since high school. Good times. I've been pretty obsessed with the black and gold color combo as of late. And I'm most excited about my new badass leather skirt - definitely going to be making it's way through regular rotation.

Had Wine Club on Thursday and the theme was Merlot, which was more pleasant you might think. Merlot's gotten a bad rap lately, I feel. K filled me in on her newly learned Lady Gaga facts - she went to school with Paris and Nicole Richie, but wasn't friends with them, wrote tons of songs for other famous artists but wasn't able to get signed until Akon brought her onto his label, among other things - did I mention we're going to see her at the 9:30 Club in only 6 days??? I'm freaking out.

As for the outfit, I got this vintage Burberry trench in Paris from the same vintage store I got this coat from. It's probably the most practical thing I've ever bought, which is not saying much because I'm not exactly known for my practical shopping. Oh and the "new" shoes were a Yoox splurge - I intend to work them into as many outfits as possible in the coming future.

Jeeves, Bring 'Round the Volvo Stationwagon

Currently listening to You Better Get It Before It Gets You (The Golliwogs) - sux but I can't find a free version. Buy it though.

Jeeves, Bring 'Round the Volvo Stationwagon

Don't I look like the picture of domesticity in my mom pants in this idyllic suburban setting? Seriously though, I love these pants - they're so comfy and I feel like Diane Keaton. B. and I went to a bunch of open houses and wandered about on Sunday, all while enjoying the wonderful weather. Lovely!

Contructivism + Saks = Irony Galore

I hadn't seen these yet, but NOTCOT has the high-res images of Shepard Fairey's Studio Number One artwork for Saks Fifth Avenue's Spring '09 I Want It! campaign. I have an affinity for Russian art so I find these...kind of out of place at Saks. Not sure I get where they were going with this one. Shopping and Communist propaganda? I'm not really seeing the connection here. Thoughts?

Umm...I'm Available for Adoption...

Perez says Marc Jacobs and fiance, Lorenzo Martone, are thinking about adopting a baby girl. That is going to be one well-dressed little girl. Seriously guys, I might be a little older than what you're looking for, but I have a lot of love to give!

A Woman After My Own Heart...

A few of Michelle Obama's comments in this NY Times article made me laugh, because I find myself saying similar things to B. all the time. One such quotable quotation:
He’s always asking: ‘Is that new? I haven’t seen that before.’ It’s like, Why don’t you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet.

"Get out of my closet" is right! He should know better.

Crusty Jugglers

The shoot-out with the old people at the end of Hot Fuzz was the funniest thing I've ever seen. Glad B. and I caught up to 2007 and finally saw it.

I couldn't wait very long to wear the bonus pair of leggings I got the other day. Went to Trusty's on Saturday, which I will now be adding to my dive bar rotation - B. was very very excited to discover they have Buck Hunter. Good times.

Daphne Guinness, You're My Hero

From IrishTimes.com:
DESCRIBE WHAT YOU'RE WEARING: It's a dress by Gareth Pugh from his second catwalk collection. He's multi-faceted and the most interesting dress designer to come out of the UK for a while. The platform shoes are made to my own design. The gloves are also by Pugh, with rings from a jeweller in LA - I have a thing about armour. The earrings are 1920s.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST TREASURED ITEM?: A very beautiful Balenciaga coat in cherry red duchesse satin with pink interior. I really love my bits and piece of Chanel, a gold sequin coat from the 1920s and my Philip Treacy hats. I love feathers, rose-cut diamonds and old cufflinks.

DO YOU HAVE PET HATES ? I hate trainers and shell suits, and I am not good on prints. I like things to look neat and tidy and I hate too many logos. I don't do floaty stuff much.

DO YOU ALWAYS WEAR SUCH HIGH HEELS? I always wanted to be tall, and I shrink when I take off my shoes. I have always had my shoes made to my own design and I wear flats only at the gym. Louboutin made me a pair of shoes out of a Guinness can, but I haven't worn them for years.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO DRESS UP? About 10 minutes. I do my own hair and as long as I have a decent manicure, clean hair and two or three favourite things, then I get myself together very quickly. It's easy once you have the same black and white base. Otherwise it takes me hours.

...a little more here.

My New Leggings Have Arrived!

These are cool.

Stitched Up Legs

I am very very excited about my new leggings. I feel like they kind of make my legs look like Sally's from the Nightmare Before Christmas, who apparently has an extensive Wikipedia entry. To top things off, the lovely people at Costume Department included a second, equally incredible pair, because these were shipped late (they were at Paris Fashion Week). I cannot wait to wear these all the time!

Speaking of Valentino...

Valentino: The Last Emperor is open in select cities now and I have to admit I'm intrigued. Based on the NY Times review, it sounds poignant and a little bit sad. Stephen Holden writes, "watching the movie is a little like gorging on chocolate and Champagne until that queasy moment arrives when you realize you’ve consumed far too much" - a sentiment that hits much closer to home, given the current economic climate, I'm sure. Has anyone seen it yet?

Newly Obsessed with: Sruli Recht

I think I'm a little behind the eight ball on this one, but luckily playmedesign brought me up to speed when they posted The Damned (see below). Now I've literally wasted hours of time on Sruli Recht's website, looking at his incredible designs. I thought I'd share :-).

Is Valentino Un-retiring?

NY Post says Valentino might be back in the game:
Legendary fashion designer Valentino retired two years ago, or did he? Stylish sources say the well-tanned Italian - who was recently fined $44 million for tax evasion - has quietly rejoined the game. Following the brand's much-lauded show in Paris, fashionistas were whispering that it was the master himself who made it sing.

This could be very interesting.

Seeing Green

Well since I neglected to wear green today (I'm not a jerk about it, I just totally forgot), I thought I'd do a green-themed post to make up for it. Some items I've been eye-ing...

I love this peacock-like creation

I kind really want an obnoxious neon piece for this summer and these might be it

I've always had a penchant for green converse, in particular, but the studs are the cherry on top

this might be a little over-the-top but I just couldn't resist sharing :-)

I love this more colorful version of the traditional straw fedora

I love these in black but the green is just a little more interesting

Mario + Man Ray = amazing t-shirt design

Worker Bee

And a big thumbs down for Monday. Seriously, I'm convinced the entire DC area was in on a conspiracy to do me in today. But I reigned victorious! ROAR! Jk, I'm being dramatic. I just can't handle the real world. Too hard.

As for the outfit, it's work-themed, hence the monochrome color scheme. I usually dress in mourning for my pre-adult life.

Double Trouble

Listening to Dirty Work (Steely Dan)

Stupid Chris Brown ruined the Double Mint gum jingle for me and that used to be my favorite song to sing in the shower :-(. But that doesn't mean I can't have double the fun with two cardigans!! Whoa I'm feeling cheesy today. Best I move on with the photos.

A Coco Chanel biopic with Audrey Tautou is almost too good to be true so I hope it doesn't break my fragile little heart by sucking.

Painted Nights

Currently listening to Across 110th Street (Bobby Womack)

Painted Nights

Painted Nights Painted Nights
Jewelry detail: these pics made me realize my vintage locket is most likely Ralph Lauren, judging by the RL. And this is a close up of the Hermes bangle I wear all the time.

Painted Nights
I love two-tone shoes :-)

It was so incredibly nice and warm outside on Saturday so I busted out one of my favorite summer dresses. It makes me feel like I'm somewhere exotic when I wear it. B., a couple of our friends and I went to a bbq on an incredible roof deck in Dupont. It was dark out and we all pondered what kind of scandalous things one might see in the many surrounding hotel and apartment windows late at night - clearly we focus our mental energies on only the most appropriate and important of issues when we get together.

It's All in the Details

I love old school Steve Martin.

It's fun to play tourist in one's own city. Sunday, B. and I covered quite of bit of ground and actually got to take advantage of our nation's capital, which we don't do enough. We started out in the U St. area at Busboys and Poets (this was one of the places Anthony Bourdain visited when he did his recent DC episode of "No Reservations"). It did not disappoint even B., who is generally a food snob. From there, we worked our way over to the Palisades, where we admired the views of the Potomac...
