Leggings Love

I'm not over my leggings yet. Not by a long shot. However, lately, I've been feeling the need to jazz things up a little. Thankfully, I discovered Costume Dept. and ordered the magnificent pair above. And I might be coming back soon for more...

Yigal Azrouel and Ohne Titel: Paint It Black

Ok, I know I'm about, oh, 2 weeks behind on this one, but it takes me a while to weed through all the Fashion Week(s) coverage and I'm struggling to catch up! Either way, I can't go on without mentioning how much I'm drooling over Ohne Titel's and Yigal Azrouel's decadently delicious use of black. Yum!

Favorite Ad: Barbara Bui

I wanted to do something on a Fall '09 collection today, but I'm sick so I don't have the energy to pick through all my bookmarked links. Thankfully, I'd saved these kickass scans of Barbara Bui's surreal Spring '09 campaign, which I'm still very enthusiastic about, so I thought I'd share these...

B. and I had a Mardi Gras party to go to on Saturday and thought it might be fun to take some pics outside beforehand. In truth, it was quite cold. And these shoes are not great for walking up hills or on uneven surfaces. Lesson learned.

I'm not a huge jewelry person, but I love this necklace my mom gave me for Christmas one year. I had this amazing Greek cameo design on one side and the Gemini twins on the other - I'm a Gemini.

Finally got an excuse to wear my amazing new skirt from Reiss (as if I really needed an excuse). B. and I decided to treat ourselves to a delicious meal at the Cafe at Palena - the cheeseburger is to die for! We always see at least one DC politico when we go there (who knows who's sitting in the actual restaurant in the back). Last time we went, we were sitting next to a Midwestern Republican senator, who was dinning with his wife. It was funny, because at one point, his wife leaned across the table and said, "see, this is the way you do this place! The cafe is much more reasonably priced than the main dining room." B. and I were thinking along the same lines...

Thank You, Matthew Williamson

...for being you. In a sea of black and gray, we can always rely on you to give us that incredible kaleidoscope of color that always makes your collections stand out from the rest. You bring sunshine into our lives when it's cold and gray and that's why we love you. Never change!

I felt like my work wardrobe could be a bit more...colorful. Usually, I just stick to black, gray, and navy, so I reinstated this skirt today as one of my "corporate-friendly" pieces.

Match Up

Match Up

Isn't it great when things work out without any planning? I finally got a much-needed pedicure and picked one of those lovely dusty shades of purple OPI has been offering lately. Then, I just-so-happened to bust out my new shoes, which just-so-happened to perfectly match the purple nail polish I had picked. I'm not much of a matcher, but it was satisfying, nonetheless.

Another musing: I've never been much of an accessories person, and I have a lot of inner turmoil over this shortcoming (or not, depending on my mood that day). I guess, I mean to say, I'm not much of a "tons of accessories" person. This is not to say I'm not appreciative of this talent, I'm just old-fashioned, I suppose, and am still of the mindset that one picks the "show piece" and that is the piece that one "shows." grow out of this or not?

Sorry guys, I totally dropped the ball (think I was tired last night) and forgot to mention what I'm wearing.

Well the nice weather was not to last, but that's not such a bad thing because I still have plenty of winter wardrobe things to wear. One of which is this amazing knitted dress that B.'s mom's mom knitted back in the day and that she, most recently, passed onto me. I love the color of it and it makes a wonderful contrast with tough things like lame leggings and a leather jacket.

So...I know not everyone watches Top Chef, but tonight was a pretty wicked awesome episode and my two faves, Carla and Fabio, rocked it tonight! Also, Carla is reprazentin' DC!!! Can't wait for next episode in NOLA!

I subjected B. to Mamma Mia tonight and, whoa Pierce Brosnan, please, for the sake of all humanity, never sing again.

Moving on, let's get down to business. And I think any female who wants to be at the top of her game should dress like she means it. Lucky for us empowered bitches, super shoulders are back!

Michelle Obama to Be New Carla Bruni

Not very surprising, but Michelle Obama will be appearing on the cover of the March issue of Vogue. Washington Post describes the cover...
In the cover photo, taken by Annie Leibovitz, Obama is leaning on a soft beige sofa at the Hay-Adams Hotel, where the first family stayed days before the historic inauguration. Obama is wearing a magenta dress by Jason Wu, who designed her inaugural ball gown. Her right hand rests under her chin. Her left hand folded beneath her. She is wearing a diamond that you do not often see her wearing in recent appearances. Behind her, light streams in between curtains. [source]

Update: Perez has got the picture here.

Currently listening to Chick Habit (April March)

Friday night was poker night. Sadly my game deteriorates as my consumption of alcohol increases so I did not rake in the big bucks. Fun nonetheless, though. I haven't broken out the lame leggings in a while and I thought it might be fun to pair them with some preppy pieces.

New Favorite Artist: Leah Tinari

I'm enjoying Leah Tinari's colorful candid paintings that make one feel that they're a guest at a racous party. Her upcoming exhibition Sneak a Peek is based on personal photos and inspired by laughter. I imagine having one of these jubilant paintings in one's home would brighten any room. You can view more of her work here.

The Obligatory Balmain Jeans DIY

Yes, I know 23490823 other bloggers have done this already, but at least I can promise you I will spend an extraordinary amount of time on this and will be completely obsessed with coming as close as I can to the "cloud wash." Thus far, I have bleached and washed these jeans twice using Clorox Plus High Efficiency Bleach (I made the mistake of using store brand bleach on one spot and it did not compare at all). I used a small rag to apply the bleach, because I thought that would create the cloudy, crinkled effect I was looking for. Then I distressed these jeans further (they've already been well-worn as they are Guess jeans, circa 1996) using a pumice stone, which is great for softening the fabric gently, and cheese grater, which is better for more extreme distressing. Here's where I'm at:

Obligatory Balmain DIY

Now, I've done one more run with the bleaching and might do one more. After that, I intend to rip up the right knee and go at them with the cheese grater again. I know you will be waiting breathlessly on my progress.

Haircut Day

Currently listening to Right Round (I know, but it's catchy, alright?)

Things I like about having short hair:
  • less wash and style time
  • my attitude has gone up at least 2 points on the Sass Meter
  • it looks more "edgy" if I sleep on it
